At Kingspan we believe that by driving innovation we can provide products and services which lead to more cost effective, sustainable and safer construction methods. Each product has a responsibility to consider how to improve the sustainability of their operations.

PV solar energy solutions

Our Kingspan Energy sub-division has developed a system which makes mounting solar PV panels easy and quick, turning an industrial roof into a valuable energy production space.

Our own factory in Holywell, North Wales has one of the largest solar PV arrays in the country and provides 317.000 kWh of power p/annum or 3-4% of the factory's power. The electricity produced by the system has offset 579 tCO2 emissions from installation to December 2014.

Net-Zero Energy

The Group Head Office in Ireland achieved Net-Zero Energy during 2012 with a 132kWp solar power installation. Other sizeable projects include a 406kWp solar PV array at the Holywell Insulated Panels site, a 799kWp array at the Pembridge Insulation Boards site, a 200kWp array at the Access Floors site in Hull and a 171kWp array at the Basildon site of Kingspan Renewables. In total these installations generated 1,131,567kWh of electricity in 2012.

Carbon Trust Standard

In 2012, Kingspan Insulated Panels in the UK became the first manufacturer of insulated metal cladding systems to be certified to the prestigious Carbon Trust Standard in recognition of the company being at the forefront of industry initiatives to minimise carbon emissions and energy usage. In May 2014, Kingspan Insulated Panels in the UK were again awarded this standard. The Carbon Trust Standard is designed to provide a robust objective analysis of a company's carbon performance over a number of years. Organisations must be able to display both annual reductions in energy usage over a period of three years and prove that they have the necessary management procedures, plans and targets to continue to achieve further year-on-year carbon reductions in the future.

CDP A List

In 2015, Kingspan Group was identified as a global leader for its actions and strategies in response to climate change and has been awarded a position on The Climate “A” List by CDP, the international not-for-profit that measures environmental impact of thousands of companies around the world.

113 “A Listers” appear on the 2015 list, which has been produced at the request of 822 investors who represent more than a third of the world’s invested capital, and over $95 trillion of assets under management.

Nearly 2,000 companies submitted information to be independently assessed against CDP’s scoring methodology, and the list features some of the world’s best known companies including Apple, Microsoft and Google, the three largest by market capitalization.

In 2015, Kingspan Group became a member of RE100, the collaborative, global initiative of influential businesses committed to 100% renewable electricity, working to massively increase corporate demand for renewable energy. Kingspan Group are 1 of 57 companies that are members of RE100 that have publicly announced their commitment to Net-Zero Energy and present a compelling business case for other companies to follow suit. RE100 is led by The Climate Group in partnership with CDP, as part of the We Mean Business coalition.
